INTRODUCTION
There is no documentary evidence to illustrate the beginnings and early growth of the collection of manuscripts made by Archbishop Laud. From 1633, the year in which he became Archbishop of Canterbury, to 1641, when he was committed to the Tower of London, we are able to follow the growth of the collection by means of the year dates entered in the great majority of the manuscripts.
